North Powers Animal Hospital

I've been to this office quite a few times for a number of different pets and have always had amazing experiences. What is pushing me to write this review now is how my little mouse Charlie was taken care of during his last moments. A few weeks ago, I found my pet mouse with a problem that couldn't go unseen, so I got an appointment for him as soon as possible at this hospital. Once we were in, Dr Markel treated my little mouse, along with me and my partner with such respect and kindness, even when informing me it may be time to gauge his quality of life and determine if it was time to let my little boy go. They gave us time with him, and Dr. Markle promised me that he was going to be not afraid in those final moments. It's always hard losing your best friend. The staff were respectful and kind from the beginning to the end of this trip, but it went on even after I exited the building. A few days later, I went to pick up his ink and clay prints that I'd requested. Reignited some of the feelings I'd put away, but it was a beautiful reminder of my little buddy. A good couple week have passed since I went in for that appointment, not knowing I'd be leaving with one less friend, but time always helps heal. Yet, despite the time that passed, there was one more thing NPAH had to offer. A handwritten sympathy card from some of the staff. I opened it with my partner and we both cried to what everyone had to say. It was a beautiful thing to read after all this time- I'm still tearing up writing this review while looking at this card. A huge and warm thank you to Natalie, Meghan, Dr. Leinburger, and especially Dr. Markle for making that sad day the best it could have been. Thank you Dr. Markle for treating my sweet Charlie boy with such kindness and care, I will never forget the names you came up with for him during an exam or the fun facts you shared about my little mus musculus. Rest In Peace Charlie the mouse, you were loved beyond what you could comprehend in your little mouse head. I miss you. Thank you NPAH.

Surgery went well. I am grateful they saved my guinea pigs life. They didn't warn me about socializing behavior during healing process. We almost couldn't reintroduce the piggie back with his brother. Make sure you do your research. I am giving 3 stars because in terms of kindness and care they did great. But I didn't feel like I was given appropriate knowledge and they were very expensive. Not unbelievably expensive. But I felt it cost twice what it should have. Pros: kind, nice, great surgeons. Worked fast to help. Cons: expensive, lack of "other" knowledge shared.

Our experience with North Powers Animal Hospital has unfortunately left us feeling very sad—not just for our own experience, but for the animals and families who will continue to walk through those doors. We could understand if this had been a one-time experience, but over the past year, each time we have brought our little dog in, we have consistently felt as though our presence was an inconvenience to the front desk staff. There has been a noticeable lack of warmth, compassion, and genuine bedside manner. During our most recent visit, the technician drew blood and administered a Bordetella vaccine. We were not told which side the blood was drawn from or where the vaccine was administered, information that is important for us as pet owners to know. When the technician finished, they simply walked out and said, “Here you go.” I had to specifically ask for verbal guidance about who would contact us, what we should expect, when we would hear from someone, and where the results would be communicated. Perhaps most surprising was the cost. We paid approximately $400 for a basic lab draw and one vaccine. This was not a veterinarian examination—it was a technician visit. We understand that veterinary care is expensive, and we are willing to pay for quality care. What is much harder to accept is leaving a veterinary office feeling like compassion and communication were afterthoughts. Our pets are family, and when we entrust them to a veterinary practice, we expect not only competent medical care but also kindness, communication, and empathy. I’m sharing this review not to be unkind, but because I genuinely hope the experience improves for the families and animals who come here in the future. There are many wonderful veterinary professionals who understand that excellent animal care includes caring for the people attached to those animals, too. That is the level of compassion and bedside manner we will be looking for going forward.

We go to another veterinarian who could not see our dog for what we thought was a bowel obstruction surgery for a couple of days. We called nine other places not wanting to use emergency vets again. The receptionist at North Powers went above and beyond calling in the owner to help us. Dr. Welfare came in immediately and what was supposed to be a bowel obstruction was a very extensive surgery for lots of reasons due to our dogs intestines. The final cost was reasonable and our dog is doing great the next day. Absolutely recommend. Ten days post surgery. Our Doberman is healing so very well.

Dr. Peters is a great vet. She takes the time to answer your questions, and I don't feel rushed.
