Uintah Pet Emergency

I was worried that my German Shepherd might have a life-threatening illness. She had all the symptoms. The doctor did x-rays and all that other stuff and it turned out to be an irritation or something in her gut. He prescribed a prescription diet (or I could cook it at home) and she is doing just fine. The staff is very friendly and very hospitable. The price was fair for this being an emergency room for animals. I highly recommend Unitarian Pet Emergency if your loved one needs immediate attention.

The staff is caring. The facility is clean and welcoming and everything exceeded my expectations. I would absolutely recommend the facility to anyone with an emergent issue with a pet.

I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 because the vet-tech and receptionist were friendly. The vet himself, Dr. Marek "Dr. Mark" has a terrible bedside manner. And his "plan" after examining my cat was to run $1,500 in tests to diagnose the issue (Plus $500 to drain her fluid buildup, on top of another $450 for the initial scan/exam before I even received the plan). When I said I couldn't afford that, there was no progressive suggestions like, "let's x-ray first to see what we can find, and take steps from there." The tests included things like HIV/FIP for my lifetime indoor cat, which is ridiculous. Also, there was no direct communication with me about the approach. It's an empty hospital, but they have the vet-tech presenting the plan and running back and forth with my questions, until I asked if I could speak directly with the doctor. They also said that after the tests, I should take her to a different hospital for overnight observation and treatment, so no consideration of potential financial constraints what-so-ever. Spend $2,500 here and then take her to another hospital for more emergency treatment. I went ahead and had the fluid drained to provide temporarily relief. The exam, plus 1 hour of oxygen and drainage, without any of the testing, ran $935. The receptionist said their other vet would be in that Sunday "and she's really great." Almost like she knew Dr. Marek was subpar. I've heard that they have a female vet who's quite good, so i guess it just depends on who's on staff on any given day. In fairness to Dr. Marek, I think he did do a competent job of draining the fluids from my cat. But his approach to emergency diagnosis and his general demeanor with people who are going through a pet emergency leave a lot to be desired.

I took my 22 year old cat to the emergency room after presenting with weakness in his back legs and an unusual head tilt. The vet on staff wanted to run a battery of test that I felt was too much for a cat that old. I asked that they run a blood test to look for the markers of kidney failure and for hyperthyroidism. The vet on staff refused to run the 2 tests I asked for. He wanted to run everything or nothing. After I took my cat home I made an appointment with Yorkshire Veterinary Hospital (who I would recommend). Because I took my cat home (after the vet refused to run the tests I wanted) I got a call from the sheriff inquiring about my cat. Truly a terrible experience for both my family and my cat. I would not recommend this vet to anyone.Yorkshire Veterinary Hospital ran the tests I wanted, diagnosed my cat with hyperthyroidism, and got him treated quickly. In response to the business reply: I understand the comprehensive testing is recommended, however comprehensive testing is not always financially feasible. The total bill for the recommended treatment was exorbitant. Because I could not afford every test, your veterinarian decided to do nothing, and left my cat in distress. Had your veterinary staff run the tests I asked for, my cat could have reached his diagnosis of hyperthyroidism faster. Reporting me to the sheriff because your vet refused to run tests is beyond unethical. I did not take my cat again medical advice. I took my cat because your veterinarian refused to treat my cat. Overall, horrible experience from a terrible vet.

I did not understand the severity of the condition of my cat, but upon checking in they recognized the risk immediately and took action. They prioritize the life threatening problem and began working to save my baby immediately. I felt guilty for skipping the line, but grateful for the prioritization of more dangerous cases. Everyone was calm, kind and knowledgeable. They were very empathetic and professional. And yes, my pet survived and I was able to transport him to a 24/7 facility for continued care.
